Alabama is a American country band. The founder of the band is randy Owen and his cousin teddy Gentry. The band was formed in fort Payne, Alabama. You know, Alabama is the state of the America. The band of Alabama was named from them, because of there birth state. And also Alabama state is an area with strong country music roots. First of all the band name is not Alabama. There first name was wild country. They changed there name as a Alabama after they make there original songs. Two years later, Cook, Gentry, and Owen hired rock & roll drummer Herndon on a permanent basis. Before the 1970s they were play only covers, they didn’t wrote any of original songs . They began write the original songs after the group toured the Southeast bar circuit in the early 1970s. In 1973 the band relocated from Fort Payne, Alabama to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to become the house band for a club called The Bowery. Working for tips, they played six nights a week honing the harmonies that would later become a trademark. There changed there name in 1977.

After two albums of motivational music and a farewell tour in 2004, Alabama split up. They regrouped in 2010 and have since released new songs and toured all over the world. The only member of the band that was not born in Alabama was Mark Herndon.

Herndon was a former rock 'n' roll drummer and was born in Massachusetts. His exposure to rock music contributed to Alabama's distinctive sound. Mark Herndon spent 25 years playing the drums in Alabama, where he was frequently featured as one of the band's four members on flyers, t-shirts, and album covers.
