Early Life

Everyone knows how strained the relationship was between Eminem and his Mom. But, many people don’s know what all she went through. She gave birth to Eminem when she was just 15 years old. The whole labor lasted 72 hours, and almost claimed his mother’s life. Eminem had a very rough childhood. He grew up in a predominately black neighborhood, which didn’t take kindly to the lone white kid. He was constantly picked on, and one time when he was 9, he was badly beaten that he ended up in a coma for a week.   Eminem was a high school dropout. Although interested in English, Eminem never explored literature (preferring comic books) and he disliked math and social studies. After failing 9th grade three times, his mother was ready to kick him out. She told him to either quit school and help her pay the bills, or he wouldn’t be allowed to stay with her anymore. It was an easy decision, which means Eminem only made it to 9th grade. Eminem worked at several jobs to pay the bills. One of the jobs he had was with Little Caesar’s Pizza in Warren, Michigan. Eminem later said she often threw him out of the house anyway, often after taking most of his paycheck. When she left to play bingo, he would blast the stereo and write songs.

Health problems

Eminem has spoken publicly about his addiction to prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Ambien and Valium. According to friend and fellow D12 member Proof, Eminem first straightened out in 2002. When he working on the set of “8 Mile” Eminem was struggle to find time to sleep. He working 16 hours a day, developed insomnia. An associate gave him an Ambien tablet which "knocked [him] out", encouraging him to obtain a prescription. which eventually lead to a dangerous addiction. At the height of his addiction, he was consuming up to 60 Vicodin pills a day. This was Eminem's first experience of drug addiction,

Being Famous

Slim didn’t sign his first record deal until 1992, and before them, things were tough. To make ends meet he worked as a dishwasher and cook as a small family restaurant. He brought in salary of $5.50 an hour. When it comes to being drawn to music, it runs in Eminem’s family. His mother and father were actually in a band together, it was called Daddy Warbucks. Eventually, his father left Eminem and his mother to pursue a career in California. Chances are Em is having the last laugh. His self-produced recording The Slim Shady EP caught the attention of famed rapper and producer Dr. Dre, who helped Eminem produce The Slim Shady LP. The 1999 record made Eminem a radio and video superstar, with a reputation as a white rapper who wasn't afraid to be vulgar.

With an estimated 220 million albums sold globally, Eminem is one of the best-selling musicians of all time. He was the third-best-selling musician overall in the United States in the 2010s and the best-selling male musician there in the 2000s. He received the "Artist of the Decade (2000-2009)" title from Billboard. He is the only artist to have ten number-one albums on the Billboard 200, all of which debuted at the top of the chart in a row, and five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has awarded diamond or higher certification to The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, Curtain Call: The Hits (2005), "Lose Yourself", "Love the Way You Lie", and "Not Afraid". He is listed among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time by Rolling Stone. It is the pinnacle of anyone's career to receive a Grammy. Eminem has won 15 Grammys in total, in addition to one. That's crazy.

When Eminem bought his first big house with his first big royalty check, he didn’t know how famous he was. The house was on a busy main street, and he has to deal with a lot of crazy fans. It got so bad that he couldn’t even go outside his own home. Then he selling the house, and buying a more property with the money.

Comparisons with other artists

As a white performer prominent in a genre influenced by black artists, Eminem has been compared, much to his chagrin, to Elvis Presley, and has lyrically been compared to Bob Dylan. Rapper Asher Roth has been compared to Eminem and Roth devoted a song on his album ("As I Em") to him, which he took offense to. The accomplished trumpeter Nicholas Payton has called Eminem "the Bix Beiderbecke of hip hop".

Other Things

While on the set of “Funny People” Eminem befriended Jonah Hill. He later admitted to Hill that “Superbad” was his favorite movie of all time. He even went as far as to quote all his favorite scenes to hill while on set. Of course, Jonah was in complete shock, and stocked about it when he told the story to an MTV reporter.

Many people don’s associate Eminem with being a philanthropist, but you maybe surprised that he established many foundations and charities. One of the dearest one’s to him is the Marshall Mather’s foundation. The foundation is geared towards helping at risk youth in his state of Michigan.
